It’s the gift giving season, no matter what holiday you celebrate. And, you don’t want to leave the beer lover in your life empty-handed.
There are numerous gift options out there for your little beer geek – some traditional and some not so traditional. One of the best options – other than copious amounts of great beer – is glassware.
I’m a big fan of beer glasses – I have close to 150 beer glasses, but no one really needs that many. Basically, everyone should at least have a snifter, a hefeweizen glass, a pilsner glass, tulip glasses, a liter mug and a few other glasses. You could supplement their beer glass collection with any of these, and they would make a good gift.
But, to really standout, there are other, much cooler options.
Wine Enthusiast has a great list of beer gifts available on its website (http://www.wineenthusiast.com/gift-ideas/for-the-beer-lover/). The best may be the personalized oak barrel stainless steel mug for $49.95. The mug is made with a handle and exterior of American oak and looks like a beer barrel. The inside is lined with stainless steel. It can be personalized with your loved one's name. It’ s a gift any beer drinker would love. (Hint: If any of my friends or family are reading this, buy this for me).
As a big fan of the TV show “Game of Thrones,” as well as the series of books of the same name, I’ve developed an affinity for drinking horns – drinking vessels made to look like the horns of animals. Search Amazon.com for drinking horns, and you’ll see many unique and beautiful glassware in all shapes and sizes.
A personal favorite is the Scales Medievel Germantic Leather Drinking Horn (https://www.amazon.com/Scales-Medieval-Germatic-Leather-Drinking/dp/B00IVOM4MY/ref=sr_1_15) available for $19.99 each.
The horn is beautifully made, and comes with a leather strap to hang from your belt and holds 15 to 22 ounces of beer. If you rather not hold a horn while drinking, there are versions that come with stands and even others that can stand on their own.
One of the best websites for beer gifts is Uncommongoods.com. They have a great beer glass available called the 14th Century Beer Stein. The stein, handmade by New York artist Stephanie Theado, is a two-pint stone mug made in the French medieval-style. It retails at $34. http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/14th-century-beer-stein#the-maker.
If the beer lover in your life is also a comic book geek, Bed Bath & Beyond has a great beer glass set available. The set includes four pint glasses, each featuring a Marvel superhero – Captain America, Iron Man, Spider Man and Thor. The set costs $29 and is available here: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/icup-trade-marvel-reg-comics-vintage-cover-series-pint-glasses-set-of-4/1046461391.
Finally, a personalized Engraved Copper Beer Stein (http://alchemade.com/engraved-copper-beer-stein) would make many a beer drinker happy. The 20-ounce copper stein will be a standout in anyone’s beer glass collection.
The great thing is, many of the sites listed above promise delivery before Christmas. Get shopping.
