Marblehead High School skiers Sam Thompson, Tucker Braun, Mason Poisson, Maddie McKay and Courtney Pingree competed for Team Massachusetts at the annual Eastern High School Alpine Championships, which was held on Mittersill Mountain at the Franconia Ski Club March 9-11.

The Eastern Alpine Championships is an event that has teams representing a number of states, including Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia.

Comprising the local Team Massachusetts roster were athletes from Marblehead, Winchester, BC High, Andover, East Longmeadow, St. Mary’s of Lynn, Newburyport, Hingham and Lenox. 

The state’s boys’ team finished second after being nudged out by perennial favorite Vermont, while the Massachusetts girls ended up third, with Vermont once again owning the top spot.

The Eastern High School Alpine Championships is a challenging event that only boasts the best scholastic racers throughout the eastern half of the country in a team skiing slalom and giant slalom competition.
